Biopsy Postoperative Instructions
DO NOT have intercourse for one (1) week following your biopsy.- DO NOT douche for one (1) week. You may shower or bathe daily.
- DO NOT use tampons, Tampax, or any internal feminine products for one (1) week.
- DO continue taking your birth control pills if they have been prescribed for you.
- DO expect some vaginal spotting or discharge with small dark particles. This is normal. Lower abdominal cramping is common. If you have no contraindications to aspirin-type drugs, Ibuprofen (Advil®) 2 tablets every 4-6 hours will help. Take this medication with food. If you have bleeding heavier than your normal menstrual cycle, call the office for an appointment.
- DO watch for signs of infection including pelvic pain, foul vaginal discharge, and a temperature elevation consistently over 100 degrees F. Should you have signs of infection call the office immediately for an appointment.
- DO keep your next appointment as scheduled, one to two weeks from the time of your biopsy. Your pathology report should be back to the office by that time.
